Please confirm me about my order. Liam NolanLeaking YJ Wrangler Transmission
Question: I have a 1987 Wrangler w/4cyl and ax-5 transmission. Leakingtransmission fluid (looking from front of jeep) from a hole that is machined in the case @ the passenger bottom left corner that mounts to the transfer case. Cannot figure why there is a machined hole in the case and how I can be leaking fluid from. Restoring the Jeep. thanks for your help. Gary
Answer: Gary, often the manufacturer adds extra mount points on eguipment in case it’s used in a different vehicle or application. But it should not be leaking from the hole. I’d guess that there is a crack inside the case that’s allowing the lube to escape via the hole. I think what I would do is get a proper sized bolt for the hole. Clean the lube out of the hole the best you can. Put some thread sealer on the bolt and put it in the hole and see if it stops the leak. Your other alternative is to pull the trans and check it out internally.

How to tell a true Golden Eagle, Is it in the VIN?
Question: Based on my VIN number and the info you have here on this site my 1977 CJ-7 DOES NOT EXIST! Here is the VIN as it came off of my dash panel labled VIN J7AP3EHXXXXXX (edited) I also looked under the hood and found a metal tag labled Toledo Jeep plant that has the same number. I believe I have a Levi Golden Eagle CJ-7 if this is the case HOW can I tell for sure, it has the GE decals and options as well as the Levi interior…
Thanks John
Answer: Well John, inconsistency was AMC’s middle name, often times parts and other items on Jeeps varied so I can’t explain your VIN. As far as the question of “A true Golden Eagle” the VIN never reflected that kind of detail in a Jeep. The only true way of knowing would be by the original build sheet and/or the dealer window sticker. The Golden Eagle did have some options that weren’t found normally on a standard model but were available as options.
Besides, does it really matter if it’s true or not? Without seeing it and from what you say it probably is authentic.

The RTI Ramp
A vehicle’s RTI or ramp travel index is a measurement of a vehicles suspension (and frame) flexibility. In many situations off-road a vehicles flexibility may be the determining factor of whether or not it can get over an obstacle. If a vehicle’s suspension is too stiff this may cause a tire or two to be lifted, loosing contact and traction, especially apparent in vehicles with open differentials. While locking differentials will help to maintain forward momentum when a wheel is off the ground, good flexibility will help to keep the wheels on the ground and more able to conform to the terrain. CJ-7 Body Lift Problems
What do you recommend for installing these parts? Fredy1975 to 1976 CJ-5 Frame Swap
Question: I have a 1975 CJ-5 Jeep and I am looking replace the framebecause the old one is bent. I have purchased items from Quadratec.com over the past several years and I was looking at their frames. The frame they have is for a 1976 CJ-5. Would that frame fit my 1975 or would I have to do modifications to get both of them to fit? Chad
Answer: It wouldn’t fit without major modifications. The 72-75 frames are completely different than 76-83 frames. The major differences are the 76-83 frames widened between the front and rear wheels and the rear uses the 2.5″ spring packs. Also worth mentioning full boxed frame, different skid plate, body mounts in different places, and a different body. You are kinda in a pickle since I don’t think there is any aftermarket frame manufacturers for the 72-75 CJ-5. If your frame is bad maybe your body is bad too…maybe get a 76-up frame and a replacement 76-up body?
