Adding a heavy bumper and a winch can cause the front of a TJ to sag a bit even with a lift. The weight of a winch and a heavy bumper puts the weight far forward. This leads to a heavy overhang that can cause drooping. At first, this wasn’t too much of an issue but the first off road trip managed to cause some damage. The front tire stuffed into the front fender causing more damage to the existing rust. The droop needed some help to stop this condition before it does more damage.
There was already 3 inch lift springs on the Wrangler and we didn’t want to have to switch them out. A quick peek on Teraflex resulted in us ordering a set of 2 inch coil spring spacers. It was the hope that these would do the trick.
Teraflex 2″ TJ Coil Spring Spacer
The Teraflex TJ Coil Spacer kit comes with 2 two inch spacers. This model spacer will fit TJ Wranglers from 1997 to 2006. The spacer is molded from durable, rugged polyethylene that can withstand environmental stressors and are crack resistant. The spacer needs to be used with the factory isolator to get the full two inches of lift.
Spacer Installation
This job and can be completed in a few hours without special tools. The first step is to properly support the Jeep and remove the front wheels.
You can make this install quicker by only doing what is needed to get the spring out. We disconnected only the bottom of the shocks, disconnected the sway bar and removed the frame side bolt on the track bar. Sway bar disconnects make it even easier if your Jeep has them. Lower the axle to allow the spring to float free and remove it.
Remove the bump stop from its mount and remove the mount to allow the spacer to slide on the tube.
Slide the TJ coil spring spacer up the tube followed with the spring isolator. Reinstall the bump stop mount and the bump stop. The coil spring can now be reinstalled followed by the other side in the same manner. Reattach the shocks, sway bar and the track bar. The job is near completed. Below are some measurements from the before and after. Oddly it only shows 1.25 inch difference but it was enough.
We did some flex testing, the tire no longer seems to get near the fender so it seems to have done the trick. A trail day will be the best test. Double check all the bolts to make sure everything is tight. Finally, make sure to check the brake lines to verify that they are not pulled tight.
The TJ coil spring spacer seems to have leveled off the Jeep and we are pleased with the install and the product.
