International Harvester trucks used mostly Borg-Warner transmissions and these transmissions can make good swaps for Jeeps. The difficult part about the swap in often the input shafts are too long and the IH bell housings are not useful in Jeep applications. IH trucks also used the Dana 18, Dana 20, and a special version of the Dana 300, so that helps make them useful for Jeep applications.

Some confusion can be generated by the IH transmission codes because the numbers seem similar to model numbers used by the manufacture. For example, a transmission with the IH T-14 designation is different from Borg-Warners T-14, the IH T-14 is a T-90. Check out the cross reference article for more information.

T-90: A T-90 is nothing to get all excited about, they are light duty and high geared. In theory, you could use an IH T-90 in your Jeep.

T-18: The IH T-18 can be useful for parts or swap into a Jeep vehicle.

T-98: The IH T-98 can be useful for parts or swap into a Jeep vehicle.

T-19: Most IH T-19 are close ratio like the Ford T-19s. Good transmissions, but not the best for four wheeling. IH did make a wide ratio T-19 that is hard to find and highly coveted by four wheelers.

TF727: The IH T-18 can be useful for parts or swap into a Jeep vehicle.

Cross Reference: Howard Pletcher's cross reference of confusing IH part numbers to OEM part numbers.
