Floor Jack, Bottle Jack, Screw Jack, Bumper Jack

Floor Jack

Probably the most common tool next to a hammer and screwdriver, the floor jack is an essential part of any garage.  Lifting a vehicle is one of the more common things we would do while working on a Jeep.  A hydraulic floor jack uses a lever to force fluid through a cylinder forcing the jack lifting surface to move.  Most jacks release the pressure by twisting the handle or a lever.

Using a jack with a greater weight rating than needed will ensure the jack is capable of lifting the load and maintaining it safely.  Never work under a vehicle supported by a jack only.  Jack stands should always be used.

Bottle Jack

A bottle jack is a compact jack mainly used for lifting a vehicle.  There are many other uses of this type of jack.  It can be used for spreading, bending, pushing, pressing, and straightening.  Often they are fitted to be used in other tools like a tubing bender or shop press.
