Jeep Wrangler Pentastar 3.6L Oil Change – Part 2

Continued from Part 1 – Tighten up the cap and move to the underside of the Jeep.  Using a 13mm socket loosen and remove the oil drain plug.  Make sure you have a drain oil container ready to catch the oil.  After allowing the oil to drain completely reinstall the plug and tighten.

Clean up underneath and return topside.  Remove the oil filler cap, insert a funnel, and fill the engine with 6 quarts of 5W30 oil.

After filling the engine start it and allow it to run a few minutes.  Observe the oil pressure gauge and make sure it is not lit.  Shut off the engine and give it a minute for all the oil to drain to the bottom of the engine.  Check the oil level and clean up.

Resetting the change oil indicator

With the engine off turn the key to the run position but do not start the engine.  Depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor 3 times within the first 10 seconds of turning on the key.  The change oil indicator should not return until the next interval.

Final

Check the oil periodically to ensure the engine has the proper amount of oil.

Note

Some people believe they should change the oil on their new Jeep earlier than the scheduled interval.  It is said that Chrysler puts additives in the original oil to aid in engine break in and that the oil should not be changed early.
