Charging the Wrangler 4xe with a Level 2 System

The 4xe comes with a level 1 charger that takes 12-14 hours to fully charge the Jeep. A level 2 can do it in able 2 hours. We’ve installed a level 2 and already have experienced the advantages – most noticeably when the Jeep is charged more than once a day.

Clarification or Technicality

We all call the chargers a charger but it not. It’s more of a smart extension cord that supplies power to the Jeep. The actual charger is built into the Jeep and all of the charging is controlled from there. The Juice Box merely turns on the high voltage to the Jeep and cuts it off when the Jeep indicates it’s finished. So…call it a charger but just know it’s not.

Most chargers will use the J1772 plug and getting the flow started is a simple as plugging it into the charge port on the Jeep. The indicator light near the port will cycle through some colors and when it’s flashing green electrons are moving.

  • cord to Juice Box

On average it takes 2-2.25 hours to fully charge. The time feels very short and it has yet to be an inconvenience. We’ve had no issue with the Jeep or the JuiceBox as of yet and everything acts as expected.
