page 2 - details and the tear
down
A few years back we
covered a frame up restoration of Rich's CJ.
The old Jeep was stripped and completely redone.

Restoration
After a few years
the engine that Rich had built started showing
some signs of being tired. AMC engines are
known for some design weaknesses and the fact
that they aren't the most popular engine makes
good rebuilders hard to find.
Engine and
Transmission Details
The AMC 360
includes a Comp Cams camshaft, Edelbrock
Performer AirGap RPM Manifold, Holley Street Avenger
Carburetor, and a converted GM HEI distributor.
Along with the
new engine the stock T-4 4 speed is going to be
replaced with a Chrysler 727 automatic which has
been completely rebuilt including a truck shift
pack and a custom torque converter.
See
Installing a Chrysler 727
in a CJ special article.
The Tear Down
The front wheels
were removed and the Jeep was lowered as far as
possible to aid in getting the engine over the
grille of the Jeep. All the hoses, lines,
and electrical were removed from the engine as
well as the front accessories.
The transmission
and transfercase were removed and the engine
hoist was attached. The bolts were removed
from the
MORE motor mounts
and the engine was freed from the Jeep.
