Installing Headlight Relays in a CJ

Ever notice how your CJ’s headlights are dim or wonder why light switches go bad? The answer is a simple problem with too much current trying to go through too much length and too little guage wire. The wiring design of a CJ routes all electrical current through the headlight switch to the headlights. The excess length of the path reduces the total current that gets to the lights.

This can be solved by installing a set of headlight relays. The relays use the headlight switch to only turn on the relay, which requires almost no current. The relay takes care of feeding the power to the lights.

We did a full article on installing headlight relays, check it out.
