Bomb Proof Motor Mount Review
The factory Jeep
motor mounts are weak in design. There isn't any
positive connection between the frame mount and the engine
mount. Eventually the rubber hardens, cracks, and the
mount fails. Hopefully when it fails the engine
doesn't lift up in the bay and take out the radiator or
something else in it's way.
M.O.R.E. or
Mountain Off Road Engineering makes replacement motor mounts
that are superior in design to the original Jeep mounts.
Their Bomb Proof mounts are of a design that cannot come
apart without shearing a large bolt holding the mount
together. To reduce vibration there is polyurethane
bushings between the mounts.
M.O.R.E. makes
several models of their bomb proof mounts for all kinds of
Jeep models. We installed a set into
Rich's 84 CJ-7
equipped with an AMC 360. Installation was simple.
This Jeep was being restored
at the time but on a whole Jeep the procedure is the same.
Support the engine from underneath, remove the old mounts,
and replace them. It is wise to replace one side at a
time to avoid the engine from moving too much. You may
need to wiggle the engine around a bit to allow the mounts
to settle in place.
The mounts look
cool and add to the driver confidence in the vehicle.
The mounts are one less thing a driver needs to think about
on the trail.
