Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac 285/70R17 Tires Installation

Posted in Projects & Installs

A few days after the tires arrived at OK Auto we took the Jeep to get the tires mounted and balanced on the Jeep’s Moab wheels.  We also took the opportunity while the Jeep was on the lift to look over the underside of the Jeep  and check for pulled tight brake lines, wires, hoses, etc.

Below are some comparison differences between the factory BFG Mud Terrain tires and the Duratracs.  We chose not to go with a much larger tire which made the 285/70R17 size perfect.

Teraflex Wrangler JK Leveling Kit Post Installation

Posted in Projects & Installs

The Teraflex Leveling Kit installation took about 3 hours at a casual pace.  Our experience working with the JK helped us to get by the little tricky parts and keep moving.  After the installation we double checked all the bolts we had contact with during the install including re-torquing the lug nuts after 50 miles.

Part 3: Rear Installation

Installation of this kit is pretty simple and only requires basic tools, a good jack, and good jack stands.  Safety is top priority, make sure the Jeep is secured before working underneath.

Raise the rear of the Jeep and support the Jeep with jack stands placed under the frame rails just in front of the rear lower control arm mounts.  Remove the rear wheels and allow the axle to partially pull away from the frame.  Several items need to be loosened/removed to allow the axle to pull away fully.  Unhook the parking brake cables from the bottom of the body and unbolt the upper sway bar links.  Remove the bolt from the rear brake line brackets on both sides, pop off the axle breather tube, pop off the locker wiring retainer clip (Rubicon only), and pop off the wiring retainer clip for the axle sensor wiring.  Unbolt the bottom shock mounts.  Failure to remove these things may cause them to pull tight under the weight of the axle and get damaged. Raise the front of the Jeep and support the Jeep by jack stands under the frame rails behind the front lower control arm mounts.  Remove the front wheels and allow the axle to extend away from the frame.  Don’t let the axle extend fully at this point, there are several items that need to be loosened/removed first. What Tires for the jeepfan.com 2012 Jeep Wrangler?

The new Jeep has recently arrived and new tires are already floating through our brains.  They will defiantly be 34″ or 35″ size and will be mounted to the Moab aluminum wheels that come with the Rubicon.

Choices, choices, choices.

There are two schools of though with the latest jeepfan.com Jeep.  One keep the Jeep more daily driver and weekend fun machine running 34′s and 2″ lift or go the typical route of 2.5″ lift and 35′s.

34′s and 2″ – A few manufacturers make tires that are in-between the 33 and 35″ size.  Most common are the 295/70R17 which equate to a 34×11.50.  This size can usually be comfortably run on a JK with no or minimal lift and no spacers.  Since we want to run the Moab wheels this is a plus.

The 35′s will require a slightly higher lift and the addition of wheel spacers (on Moab wheels) to prevent the tires from rubbing on the rear control arms and front sway bar.  Several manufacturers make spacers..the ones we would use will probably be SpiderTrax. Read more

TeraFlex Monster Forged JK Track Bar

Posted in Projects & Installs

Even a mild lift on a JK will cause the axles to shift off center. The may cause handling issued and/or tire rubbing. Many aftermarket companies make adjustable track bars for the JK that allow the axle to be re-centered but many are lacking in the rigidity of the factory bar.
